Meet Schalk
As the founder of Schalk Burger South Africa, Schalk has positioned himself as a valuable, proud South African within diverse industries in the business world. His extensive firsthand experience in the entrepreneurial arena over the past, more than two decades, makes Schalk a credible catalyst for good, ethical business. His significant interests in profitable enterprises such as King Price Insurance, various mining and related businesses (including Tokata Group, ARM Andalusite, and Skulpter), and several agricultural enterprises (including extensive farming, veterinary and reproductive enterprises, Tonnup, and various others) are proof of his ambition for opportunity. Schalk’s genuine, accessible approach to business is highly regarded. He has mastered the art of creating viable and sustainable enterprises. His passion is to build businesses that promote transparent partnerships, enhance financial prosperity, and create mutual growth opportunities in various industries.

How we work
The corporate group structure of the SB(SA) Group is divided into sector-specific divisions. This structure ensures better focus and management of activities within each industry, enhancing overall corporate governance and drive.
MINING
Diversified mining activities include ownership and exploitation of coal, clay, and andalusite reserves. Providing related services such as mining equipment rental, construction estimation services, and general mining optimization consulting services fall within this division too.
AGRICULTURE
Current livestock farming has expanded to include wildlife, sheep, boerbokke, and mixed crops including even embryo laboratory services within the group. The most recent inclusion to the portfolio is La Couronne Wine Estate in Franschhoek, and a the dedicated agricultural auction house.
FINANCIAL
This is where Schalk’s passion lies! Along with owning a brokerage company and other companies like Tonnup (an alternative commodity trading platform), he is also one of the largest private individual shareholders in King Price Insurance, where he applies his expertise to develop new insurance products and establish companies.
PROPERTY
A key strategy for SB(SA) is to own and develop strategic properties wherever their operations are and where they identify opportunities. The portfolio includes farms (farming/mining), as well as commercial and recreational properties.
COMMERCIAL & INDUSTRIAL
Businesses in this portfolio include Cars2rent (vehicle fleet rental), Tovani Trading (charter flights), as well as businesses in the transportation industry (mining, fuel, and agriculture) and Brikor Limited.
